The City Council is the local institution closer to the citizens of Pisa, it is both subject and government body responsible for the provision of services and the promotion and implementation of projects and programs.
From the political point of view, the municipality consists of a “Giunta” composed, in the case of Pisa, by 12 councilors, led by the Mayor with the task of implementing the government program and of a “Consiglio” made up of directors of the majority and the opposition with the task of guiding and controlling the political-administrative. The “Giunta” operates through its technical and administrative structures to manage the main services and activities which include: public works planning, infrastructure projects, urban planning and control of the building, civil protection and coordination of first aid to the extent of its competence.
